Do you use copy followers in JustUnfollow to follow relevant tweeps? Here’s a little behind-the-scenes action for you that let’s you know how powerful this feature really is.

Meet Chetan. He takes care of Twitter integration at JustUnfollow (I guess that’s a fancier way of saying he’s one of JustUnfollow’s indispensable tech geeks). He’s joined us today to share an oft-overlooked bit of one of the most useful feature we currently have – copy followers.

1. Chetan, what’s this extra bit in Copy Followers that JustUnfollow users need to know about?

Chetan: Copy Followers has been one of our most used features on JustUnfollow. In our attempts to constantly improve our users’ experience we realized the need for something extra in this feature and the ‘History’ sub feature was born.

2. What was the need for this sub feature?

Chetan: There were primarily two reasons why we integrated the History sub feature in Copy Followers:

a. Twitter’s imposed restrictions prevented our users from following a lot of people at one go. Thus, when they copied the followers of Twitter user ‘A’, they’d not remember these users the next time they used the Copy Follower feature on the same user A.

b. A lot of our users were copying followers from the same set of users time and again. This could either be because they preferred following their followers OR they probably didn’t remember that they had already copied their followers. We took care of both contingencies using the History sub feature.

3. How does the History sub feature work?

Chetan: Alright, so it stores the last 10 Twitter handles that the user has already copied followers from. This helps two kinds of users. User A who prefers to copy followers from a few Twitter users – he can now have easy and direct access to his most preferred Twitter handles. User B who’d mistakenly keep following followers of the same accounts will now know which accounts he’s already copied from in the past and can thus avoid them. You can delete any Twitter handle you want from the history.

Additionally, this sub feature records your follows and hides previously followed users, so you don’t end up following the same people again and again.

A third plus of History is it tracks your activity as you scroll down while copying followers from a Twitter account. There will be people you will not follow for whatever reason – these users will not be shown again. Thus this feature not only enhances the effectiveness of our api, it also adds value to our users’ experience.

4. Which accounts is this feature available for?

Chetan: All users can see the last 10 Twitter handles they’ve copied followers from. However, the ‘hide previously followed users’ functionality is only available to paid users.

5. Screenshots?

Chetan: Sure!
